Pink October

October is recognized all over the world as Breast Cancer Awareness month (Pink October). #TPCodePink, Teleperformance’s latest Passion4U initiative, is inviting you to take charge of your health and to think pink this October!

With breast cancer being one of the leading causes of death among women, we urge you to learn more about the disease through a simple infographic detailing important information that may help spread awareness and prevention. Know more about the disease’s risk factors, and get tips on how to prevent breast cancer.

According to the World Health Organization, breast cancer is the most common cancer in women both in the developed and less developed world. Although breast cancer is thought to be a disease of the developed world, almost 50% of breast cancer cases and 58% of deaths occur in less developed countries (GLOBOCAN 2008).

Breast cancer survival rates vary greatly worldwide, ranging from 80% or over in North America, Sweden and Japan to around 60% in middle-income countries and below 40% in low-income countries (Coleman et al., 2008). The low survival rates in less developed countries can be explained mainly by the lack of early detection programs, resulting in a high proportion of women presenting with late-stage disease, as well as by the lack of adequate diagnosis and treatment facilities.

Risk factors for developing breast cancer include being female, obesity, lack of physical exercise, drinking alcohol, hormone replacement therapy during menopause, ionizing radiation, early age at first menstruation, having children late or not at all, older age, and family history.

Be informed, and share it with your friends and loved ones—it might save a life.

Teleperformance through our Passion4U initiatives remain committed to taking care of your health and overall well-being. Awareness is always the first step towards breast cancer prevention. Check out our infographic here:
