Teleperformance has been in business for over 40 years, focused on creating exceptional experiences for its employees, clients, and shareholders. However, one key aspect of a successful business is to be able to give back to the society where we operate and earn. With this vision, we started our CSR initiative almost 15 years ago. I was in the US and learned about the Clinton Global Initiative, where I saw leaders of large organizations building an ecosystem to support the less fortunate. Inspired by this, we decided to have a focused approach for Teleperformance to contribute and support the communities we operate in, called Citizen of the World (COTW). Through the COTW initiative, we extend valuable help via monthly cash donations, computer provision to promote digital literacy among students, volunteer hours from Teleperformance ambassadors, as well as cash and in-kind support during natural disasters. Fifteen years ago, we had a desire to help people lead a better life. Today, it is a reality that has impacted the lives of so many, assisting local communities in reaching their maximum potential.
For us, these efforts give meaning to our lives. It is being in business for a purpose. And all of us at TP have instilled this in our DNA. In the USA, Philippines, and Colombia, we have helped rehabilitate villages struck by natural disasters. In India and Romania, we support school-age children with primary education and vocational skills. Furthermore, our ambassadors volunteer man-hours to collect and distribute food, medicines, hygiene supplies, and more to support these causes.
The world around us is crumbling. Every day, we hear distressing stories about environmental destruction, terrorist attacks, natural disasters, attacks against humanity, etc., which make my heart sink. It would be naive of us to think that our effect on the planet and its people is marginal. It’s not.
Today, humanity is face-to-face with the most significant challenge — the gradual destruction of the planet, which we rely on for our existence. The response to this calamity cannot be inaction. Giving back to society, protecting human rights, and preserving the environment are signs of a good business. Every individual must contribute to bringing about the necessary changes that help build a better future for all.
Let us work together now to radically accelerate the pace of change and ensure a safe and sustainable planet for all.
On that note, I bid adieu to 2019 and wish you a Merry Christmas and a wonderful 2020. I hope that together, we can give our children a new New Year!
