Why Should We Keep our Employees Happy?

Not everybody believes that, while running a business, it’s not enough to keep customers happy: it’s also very important to take care of our employees. Why is that? At Teleperformance, we strongly believe that everything is part of the same virtuous circle: happy employees make consumers happy; happy consumers make clients happy; and happy clients make shareholders happy. But for this virtuous circle to start running, it’s mandatory to put employees first.

The thing is that, in the end, taking care of your people adds value to your brand, because customers interact with your company through your employees. They can (and will) notice if someone is not having a good time while serving them. Let’s take a look at this in a little more depth.

Millennials are the workforce of the future. They are taking over the labor market and enforcing their own rules. They’re highly creative, impatient and smart young people who believe that life comes before work. But, at the same time, if they are motivated they could add lots of value to your company. So what should we do to keep millennials motivated? For example, here at Teleperformance we have developed the “Jump!” development program. It is very useful to identify and prepare the ones with strong potential to start climbing the corporate ladder and occupy leadership positions.

Millennials need to feel they have a future in the company they are working in, and they want to know they’re not wasting their time making an effort to be better employees day by day. With well-managed programs like “Jump!,” your company will be one step closer to keeping their young employees happy.

On the other hand, as we said before, not everything is about work for millennials. It’s about living a fulfilling, fun and exciting life with lots of adventures, interesting challenges and moments to remember forever. We have identified that millennials value working places where they can find fun moments and spaces to express their uniqueness. That’s why we have developed the For Fun Festival, an annual event in which we recognize the artistic talent of our employees with cultural shows where they can dance, play music or show their artwork. We have found that millennials get very engaged in initiatives such as these.

We have also noticed that there’s a massive trend with millennials to eat healthy food and exercise. Millennials value their bodies much more than past generations. That’s why they’ll tend to feel happier at workplaces that promote a healthy living. For example, here at Teleperformance we started a Sport Club: an international initiative that promotes all kinds of sports as a path to healthier living and a better quality of life. Also, by teaming up to play a sport, our employees start bonding with each other and creating valuable professional relationships.

Last but not least, millennials are demanding more and more training. They need to know they are getting wiser at their jobs to feel enriched as individuals. That’s why here at Teleperformance we came up with the Teleperformance University: a training program that our people use to learn about our corporate culture, best practices and the best tips to provide our clients with the best experience possible.
